Customer-Proofing Your iPad

 In Utilizing CityGro

Technology has brought us some amazing advances and made it possible to do remarkable things in marketing. We are now able to have a kiosk in the store that can capture customer data as well as track points on a Digital Punch Card. This is a great way to create loyal customers and get them coming back to the store. But what happens when the kiosk doesn’t work as it’s supposed to? Or when a customer messes with the iPad so that it’s turned off or goes to a black screen? We must prevent this from happening so that we can continue to use these incredible devices to aid in our marketing efforts. Here are some things we can do to customer-proof our loyalty devices and keep them running:

Restrictions

Using the restrictions settings, located within the general settings tab, we can limit a number of things on the iPad to make sure it continues to function as it should. It can limit or eliminate in-app purchases, deleting apps, installing apps, the iTunes store, screen recording and much more. By doing this, a customer wouldn’t be able to go back out to the home screen, delete the app or add other apps to the iPad. This can ensure that the appropriate apps remain on the iPad.

Guided Access

If you want to take it another step further and lock the iPad so that it stays on the CityGro App for iPad, you can turn on guided access. With Guided Access, you can disable all the buttons on the device including the home and volume buttons. You can also disable gestures on the screen to stop customers from getting out of the app so that it remains a place where customers can log in and track their loyalty.

To set up guided access, use the following steps:

  1. Tap on the icon for the Settings App
  2. Tap on General
  3. Tap on Accessibility
  4. Scroll down and tap on Guided Access
  5. Tap the slider to on (This means it will be green)
  6. Add a passcode
  7. Add time limits if you desire
  8. Exit Settings
  9. Open the CityGro App for iPad
  10. Triple click the home button
  11. Select the options you want on the bottom of the screen
  12. Hit Start in the top right corner.

Now that you have these settings in place, you can go about your business with confidence that your loyalty kiosk will remain in the app it needs to be in. A curious teenager won’t be able to make it so your other customers can’t use your loyalty program or opt-in to your text and email marketing campaigns. Not having to check your kiosk every few minutes will free you up to do other things to keep your business running smoothly.
